Summer: Sun.. Affects on Kidney and Heart & Remedies
Summer: Sun, Affects on Kidney and Heart & Remedies
Summer is
burning before it even begins. It is suffocating with heat before the month.
Warnings have started that this summer is going to be even hotter. Sun, heat
and wind really 'suck' a person. Water and salts are drawn from the body in the
form of sweat. As a result, lethargy, fatigue takes hold and the body falls
into a squat. However, if you do not wake up, it can lead to sunburn. There is
a danger that the body temperature will increase and the organs will freeze.
Especially vital organs such as kidney and heart are affected tremendously.
Global warming
is the main reason for the increase in intensity of sun rays. It is said that
the average temperature has increased by 0.8 degrees compared to the last
century. As a result, hailstorms also increased. With these the death toll is
increasing. It is noteworthy that hailstorms are one of the top ten natural
disasters that cause deaths worldwide. The temperature being 5 degrees
centigrade higher than the average maximum temperature of the day. Such a
situation continuing for at least five days is considered as hailstorm. These
are increasing all over the world. So it is necessary to be careful in advance.
People suffering from kidney and heart problem should be more alert.
The body tries
in various ways to withstand the heat of the sun and ensure that serious
problems do not arise. Sweating is part of it. Seat evaporates into the air and
cools the body. This is good. Otherwise the temperature of the body will
increase and it will kill the person. But as the blood supply to the skin
increases, the blood flow to the kidneys decreases. About 30% less blood is
received. This reduces the oxygen and nutrients required by the kidneys. If the
loss of body water to sweat continues for a long time, there is a risk of
sudden kidney damage (acute kidney injury). Symptoms include decreased urine
output, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, lethargy. If the problem is too much, then
the confusion will fall. There is also a risk of formation of kidney stones due
to sun heat and decrease in water content. Not drinking enough water can also
cause urinary tract infections.
Extreme influence:
About 50-6-%
of our body weight is fluids. They are essential for proper functioning of
organs. Kidneys are responsible for maintaining fluid and mineral balance. Any
irregularity in fluid dosage can have a dramatic effect on these. Dehydration
occurs when the body loses a lot of water in the form of seat. This also
reduces the liquid part of the blood (plasma). A drop in the amount of fluids
in the circulatory system by more than 15% is called hypovolemia. This is a
very dangerous situation. The amount of blood reaching the kidneys decreases.
Blood pressure drops. Another danger with this is the slowing down of the blood
purification process. As a result, waste disposal is hampered.
The body's
temperature regulation system is damaged when sunburn occurs. This makes the
fever worse. Too much of it can cause muscle wasting (rhabdomyolysis). A protein
called myoglobin is released into the blood as the muscles degenerate. It
becomes harmful to the kidneys. Dehydration also has a direct effect on the
kidneys as the potassium levels in the blood drop. High levels of uric acid can
also damage the kidneys.
Chances of
water contamination are high in summer. Water diarrhea and vomiting can be
caught with impure water. With these also the percentage of water will decrease.
This can cause kidney damage. Moreover, the chemicals in the water that are
pumped from deep into the ground with things like bore wells can also have an
extreme effect on the kidneys.
Even if water is replaced:
Replacing the
lost water and salts can help the already damaged kidneys. But it can be
harmful in the long run. Because some part may not recover. In such situations,
if the kidney gets damaged again, it adds fuel to the fire. This situation
worsens. They have an increased risk of developing chronic kidney disease (CKD).
Eventually kidney failure can occur.
Be more careful if you have kidney disease:
Sun heat can
be more dangerous for those who already have kidney problems. Among them, the
rate of blood purification (GFR) is reduced according to the needs of the body.
Therefore, even a simple problem becomes serious for them. Kidney transplant
recipients cannot tolerate dehydration. For them it brings complications. So
people with kidney disease should be more careful.
·
The lost water
should be replaced immediately. Otherwise, there is a risk of further damage to
the kidneys. Medicines should be taken regularly. High blood pressure and
diabetes should be kept under control.
·
Blood pressure
decreases when sodium is excreted in urine along with seat. If you notice
something like this, you should immediately consult a doctor and correct the
dosage of blood pressure medication accordingly.
·
People with
kidney disease should check how much urine comes. Check for leg swelling.
Depending on these, you should decide how much water to drink. Water should be
reduced if there is less urine, swollen legs or fatigue. It should be noted
whether you sweat when you are in the sun. One should measure how much urine is
produced throughout the day and drink half a liter more water than that. Ask
your doctor how much water to drink.
·
If water
content decreases, blood potassium decreases. If this is not restored, there is
a risk of muscle breakdown and kidney damage. Coconut water is good in such
situations. But people with kidney disease should be careful about this. In
them the ability to excrete potassium decreases. So don't take too much.
Coconut water, watermelon and banana are high in potassium. These can cause
problems for them. Such substances and drinks should be taken as per doctor's
advice.
If you work in the sun:
Dehydration is
more common in those who do physical activity and those who work in the sun.
Among them it may remain for a long time without knowing it. In such people,
the kidneys cannot filter toxins properly. Even if the percentage of water
decreases slightly, it becomes more dangerous. It has an extreme effect on the
kidneys. When the weather temperature is too high, the body cannot tolerate it
for more than 6 hours. If you spend more than 6 hours in the sun without taking
a break, there is a risk of getting sunburn. The body's temperature-regulating
system is disrupted. So don't work in the sun for hours like those who work
outdoors. Take a break every hour. Sit in the shade. Drink water, buttermilk
etc. and start work again. Work should be completed before sunset as much as
possible. Continue after the sun subsides.
Precautions are a must:
If you feel lethargic and tired, it means that the water content has decreased. Another indication is dark colored urine. It is better to ensure that the situation does not come to this. Along with water, salts and minerals are lost through seat. So apart from water and fluids, mineral salts should also be taken. It is not possible to drink two liters of water at the end of working all day. You should drink one or two glasses of water every hour whether you are thirsty or not. It should be noted that the water content in the camel is reduced when it is thirsty. Especially the elderly and young children do not know that they are thirsty. So make sure to drink water every now and then.
- Shade should be kept as much as possible. Use an umbrella if you go out. A wide brimmed that should be worn.
- It is better to carry water with you while going out. Otherwise there is a risk of drinking wherever water is found. If it is unsanitary it can cause diarrhea and vomiting.
- People affected by sunburn should be put in the shade immediately. Cool the body by wiping with a wet cloth. If you are unable to take fluids, by mouth, saline, vitamins and minerals should be given intravenously.
A burden on the heart
The heart
plays a vital role in the body’s response to the external environment. Changes
in blood circulation help to cool when hot and keep warm when cold. That’s why
extreme heat and extreme cold. Both have an extreme effect on the heart.
Hot winds can
cause trouble even for healthy people. And for people with heart disease, it
brings more complications. When the weather is very hot, the core temperature
of the body increases. The body tries to expel it in two ways. One-dilation of
the blood vessels in the skin. This increases the blood supply to the skin and
heat goes out from there. The heard pumps blood faster and harder to supply
more blood to the skin. The heard pumps 2-4 times more blood per minute when
the weather is hot than when it is cold. This puts extra burden on the heart.
Suppose someone already has clots in the blood vessels of the heart, when the
blood supply to the skin is high, there is a risk of reduced blood flow to the
heart. It can damage the heart. If the heart is weak and the capacity is
reduced, in them the heart cannot pump enough blood. Hence the body temperature
does not drop much. As a result, they are more prone to sunburn.
The second is
the process of evaporation of seat. Each drop of sweat that evaporates on the
skin removes heat from the body. A spoonful of sweat on a dry day can cool the
entire blood stream by 2 degrees Fahrenheit. Not only water is lost with sweat,
but also mineral slats like sodium and potassium. These salts are important for
muscle contraction, communication between nerves, and fluid balance. Excessive
seating disturbs the balance of these fluids and salts. It can cause
complications for those with heart problems. Due to loss of fluids, blood
volume decreases and salt balance is disturbed, which can put more burden on
the heart.
Be careful with water:
Usually, if
you drink more water than you need, it comes out in the form of urine. But in people
with heart failure, excel water remains in the stomach due to hormonal changes.
It puts a strain on the heart. Fatigue. Water reaches the lungs. Therefore,
people with weak heart and heart failure should consume less water and salt.
Some have to drink less than a liter. It is a bit strange situation in summer.
When exposed to high heat, the stool may shed more water. Hence more water may
be required. Drinking too much is dangerous. Even if you are sweating
profusely, the doctor told you not to drink too much water. This can reduce the
water content in the camel. So how much water to drink in summer should be
decided according to the weather. Those in AC rooms should follow the limit.
Those who live in areas exposed to the sun may take a little more. If necessary
consult a doctor. People with good heart function can take fluids as usual.
- It is better not to go out during the hottest hours of the day (from 11 am to 3pm). Make sure not to do exercises during this time.
- Wear loose, cotton clothing. It should be kept cool at home and office.
- It is better to stay away from cool drinks. These prevent fluids from passing quickly from the digestive system into the blood. Coffee and alcohol cause more water to go out of the stomach. So be careful about these. Buttermilk and cider can be taken.
- It is better to eat little by little rather than eating too much at once.
- If symptoms of dehydration such as vomiting, nausea, lethargy, headache, confusion, lack of concentration, muscle cramps are seen, the doctor should be consulted immediately.
- Some people with heart disease need drugs to increase urine output. Wearers need to monitor salt levels during summer.
